“I decided to create a space where spatial quality is paramount, and mere decoration secondary. I approached the project with minimalist design ideas. Minimalism to me is not about creating a space devoid of design but removing unneccesary ornamentation. I wanted my client to discover the beautiful spatial quality that is created by the use of carefully selected materials like the marble and steel.
“Steel surfaces are often reflective, and reflection, which somehow shows up in all my works, has become some form of an identity. I worked this very clearly into my design for the living and dining spaces.”
Tay crafted a unique space that merges the indoor with the outdoor through calculated use of simultaneous reflection. Pieces of furniture, meanwhile, carefully selected and positioned, anchor the space and provide multiple references for the merged views.
