When Studio Terre was commissioned to work on the interior, the client provided a bare-bones brief: convert one of the bedrooms into a study, another into a TV room, install a dry kitchen and furnish a study nook.
Mr. Rifdi Sng, architectural designer at Terre, together with founder and principal designer, Mr. Terence Chan, envisioned a properly scaled space with the ceiling lowered, and enormous walls divided with beading and, in some areas, reproportioned with recessed bookcases. The foyer was turned into a welcoming room with bright colors and functional furniture.
The once enormous kitchen was separated by a wall fitted with a glass window. The wet kitchen is tucked behind a smart dry kitchen with a veneered wall, cabinetry and countertops. A pair of chairs has been placed before the counter for drinks and informal meals.
A discernible gradation of palette, going from light to warm, marks the passage from the entertainment areas to the private domains comprising the master suite and the bedroom that the client’s two sons share. One of the bedrooms is fitted with a desk and a bookcase, the other with a television and a desk, but both are furnished with designer couches that fold out into beds.
The project was completed in 2018.
