From furniture and lighting to objects and even fabrics, Kettal aims to address the interior design needs of both homes and commercial spaces. The stylish options available are created together with some of the most respected names in design, and at the same time, are 100% ecological and recyclable.
Kettal, a Spanish furniture company which was established in 1966, is celebrated for timeless, functional furniture that complements contemporary lifestyles and provides solutions for the various needs of modern life.
One of the more recent and notable collections from Kettal is the Plumon range, designed by Patricia Urquiola. Plumon is based on the concept of clothing – on dressing and undressing furniture. Urquiola adopted a tailoring approach here, resulting in two models: A dining chair with braided rope arms, as well as a club chair.
For Plumon, Urquiola designed a light structure where a padded tailored “dress” is tied to cover it. The ribbed padding, characterized by its stitching, which also doubles as an aesthetic element, offers softness and comfort to the user. It’s all about extreme ease of use for this collection, where a few simple movements results in the “dress” being placed on the rigid structure, hugging it as a result.
Meanwhile, the Arc collection designed by Kettal Studio, features seating solutions with a curved, enveloping backrest based on fundamental geometry – a constant radius arc. What results are chairs that display restrained and elegant proportions. What’s more, the light aluminium frame expresses a desire to maintain armchair tradition.
Despite its simplicity, the backrest of the chairs feature simple yet sophisticated braided strips, while the seat is padded with polyurethane foam covered in matching fabric. Given its clean, sophisticated silhouette, the range is mostly used in hotel lobbies and rooms, as well as in more domestic settings as light furniture in living rooms and dining areas.
