Breguet’s Type XX 2075 Charts a New Course in Gold

As part of its 250th anniversary celebrations, Breguet reimagines its iconic Type XX chronograph in gold, paying tribute to a 1955 civilian model and the fearless spirit of early aviation pioneers.

As Breguet’s 250th anniversary celebration makes its transatlantic stop in New York, the Maison unveils a new chapter in its legacy of aviation and chronograph mastery. The Type XX Chronographe 2075 honours a pioneering spirit rooted in both horology and flight - where precision meets poetic tribute.

Inspired by a civilian model released in 1955, these two new timepieces revisit the golden age of aviation with rare fidelity. At once a tribute and a technical evolution, they revive the distinctive silhouette of the original 38.3 mm model and cloak it in Breguet gold - an exclusive alloy enriched with silver, copper, and palladium, introduced by the brand earlier this year.

Where one model wears a black anodised aluminium dial, a first in Breguet’s collections, the other opts for an elegant, vertically brushed solid silver face. The result is a duality of character: One modern in its aerospace-grade anodisation, the other timeless in its silvery sheen and soft glow.

Each version reveals subtle material cues - "Al" discreetly marked between 7 and 8 o’clock on the aluminium dial, and “Ag925” on the silver - a nod to the pioneering metallurgy of Louis Breguet’s aircraft.

Inside beats the heart of the calibre 728, reinterpreted here in hand-wound form and gilded in Breguet gold. The 7279 (black dial) features a 15-minute counter, while the limited-edition 7278 (silver dial) extends to 30 minutes and introduces a tachymeter scale. Both calibres offer a flyback chronograph function, ideal for pilots navigating high-stakes skies, and a generous 60-hour power reserve.

Flip the watch over and history takes flight. Beneath the sapphire crystal caseback lies an engraving of the Breguet 19 aircraft, commemorating the 1930 Paris-to-New York transatlantic feat. A frosted relief of the European and North American continents, with the Atlantic Ocean smoothed between them, recalls the daring question mark painted on either side of the Super Bidon’s fuselage - a symbol of possibility.

Only 250 examples of the silver-dial version will be made, their casebacks numbered and engraved by hand. Each piece is housed in a red Moroccan leather box reminiscent of those used in the 1950s - a small detail, but fitting for a watch born of archival depth and forward momentum.
