Fine-tuning E-commerce for Southeast Asia and Beyond

11 Jan 2026

Founded in Singapore with a vision to simplify innovation for businesses, Jumpstart Commerce partners with brands to craft e-commerce experiences as precise and enduring as a finely made watch.

In 2020, as the world was dealing with a sudden shift to digital, husband-and-wife team Xavier Lee and Jeanette Lau saw an urgent need: Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Southeast Asia were struggling to move online. From that milestone grew Jumpstart Commerce, distinguished as the sole Shopify Platinum Partner in Southeast Asia – a rare recognition that underscores its leadership in the region’s e-commerce landscape. Shopify is the commerce operating system for merchants – a single platform to build a store, run checkout, take payments, manage inventory and shipping, sell across multiple channels, and scale with apps, APIs, and AI.

The company’s founding vision was shaped by a belief that e-commerce should function like a finely crafted watch: Every gear and spring working in harmony. “Each part of the tech stack, from storefront design to payments, logistics, and marketing automation, is like a component in a movement,” says Lee. “Alone, they do little. But when finely tuned and working in sync, they create a seamless experience – a symphony of precision and craft that powers a brand’s growth.”

That blend of systems thinking and storytelling underpins Jumpstart Commerce’s approach. From heritage retailers to fast-growing direct-to-consumer brands, the company positions itself not just as a service provider, but as a partner walking alongside businesses in their journey.

While many agencies pride themselves on launch-day results, Jumpstart Commerce believes the true value comes after the ribbon-cutting. Their retainer programme supports brands in refining customer journeys, marketing automation, and omnichannel strategies long after the first sale.

This philosophy has yielded meaningful results. One standout story is By Invite Only, the Singapore jewellery brand founded by Trixie Khong. Known for creating everyday pieces with emotional resonance and sustainable practices, By Invite Only was already a local success. But scaling further required digital transformation.

Jumpstart migrated the brand onto Shopify Plus, unifying retail and online operations while introducing smarter customer engagement systems. The result was not only greater efficiency, but a deeper understanding of customers, giving the brand confidence to grow from local favourite to regional contender.

Such stories highlight Jumpstart’s role as a cultural bridge across Southeast Asia. The region’s diversity, from Bangkok’s bustling markets to Jakarta’s digitally native Gen Z, to Manila’s socially driven commerce, means there’s no universal playbook. Yet, for brands willing to listen and adapt, the opportunities are immense. Jumpstart helps businesses find that balance between global innovation and local authenticity, enabling Singaporean SMEs to thrive abroad and global brands to connect meaningfully with local audiences.

Looking ahead, the couple envisions e-commerce becoming more intelligent and more intimate, with AI powering personalisation and the line between online and offline retail disappearing altogether. For Jumpstart, the mission is clear: To embed future-ready systems that make innovation feel natural, not overwhelming.

But the ambition stretches beyond technology. “We’ve seen the creativity and resilience of brands from Manila, Bangkok, Jakarta, and Singapore,” Lee shares. “Their stories deserve a stage in New York, London, or Paris. Our mission is to help take Asian passions global, showing the world that brands from this region can stand shoulder to shoulder with the very best."
