The season’s best picks for when you just want a watch to do what it does best — tell the time.

PATEK PHILIPPE CALATRAVA REF. 6007G
The bright colors of the new Calatrava Ref. 6007G give off sporty racing vibes, but the 40mm case is actually crafted in polished white gold. Though certainly a more casual interpretation of the traditionally dressy Calatrava, fine details like applied gold numerals and different textural finishes on the dial point to irrefutable sophistication. Available in yellow, red, or blue.

CHOPARD L.U.C 1860
A modern update on the award-winning L.U.C 1860 that debuted in 1997, the 2023 edition retains the stunning hand-guilloche dial, chevron hour markers and Dauphine-style hands, but has removed the date window and thrown on a trendy new salmon dial. Under the Lucent Steel hood is the in-house, ultra-thin, automatic L.U.C 96.40-L that measures just 3.3mm thick.

OMEGA SEAMASTER AQUA TERRA SHADES 38MM
If you want a little more variation from the sea of “Summer Blue” dials Omega recently released for the 75th anniversary of the Seamaster, the Aqua Terra Shades collection offers five for its 38mm models: Atlantic Blue, Bay Green, Sandstone, Saffron, and Terracotta. Designed for everyday wear, the Aqua Terra Shades watches feature fully polished stainless-steel cases, a redesigned bracelet with smaller, more rounded links, and have a solid 150m of water resistance.

3The time-only, textured dials and engraved Breguet numerals of last year’s anniversary Master watches were such a hit that Longines has recently launched three follow-up models with small seconds subdials. Pictured here is the reference with a grained anthracite dial with contrasting hands and engravings in 5N red gold color, and powering it is the self-winding calibre L893.5 with 72 hours of power reserve.

HAMILTON JAZZMASTER PERFORMER AUTOMATIC 38MM
This year’s new Jazzmaster Performer collection was designed to be sporty, but we find that the streamlined aesthetic of the 38mm time-only models make these viable options for formalwear, too. There is a choice of black, blue or white sunray dials, though only the black-dialed version comes with a steel bracelet, as the other two are paired with perforated calfskin leather straps. They use the H-10 automatic calibre, which offers 80 hours of power reserve and features a balance spring made from anti-magnetic Nivachron.
