OMEGA's Timekeeping a Success at the Olympic Games Paris 2024

With a rich legacy of 92 years in sports timekeeping, OMEGA was more than prepared for the monumental task ahead. Their operation was supported by a formidable team of 550 timekeepers, equipped with 350 tonnes of state-of-the-art equipment and aided by 900 dedicated volunteers. This extensive setup was crucial in managing the rigorous demands of the Olympics, ensuring that every performance was captured accurately and every result was recorded without error.

The two weeks of competition were set against the backdrop of Paris’s iconic landmarks, including the Eiffel Tower Stadium, the Grand Palais, and the Château de Versailles. These venues not only provided a stunning visual setting for the Games but also served as the stage for some of the most remarkable performances in Olympic history.

Among the standout moments of Paris 2024 were the astonishing number of records broken. A total of 132 Olympic Records were set during the Games, alongside 38 World Records. These feats of athleticism underscored the extraordinary level of competition and the relentless pursuit of excellence that defines the Olympics.

One of the most gripping instances of OMEGA’s precision came during the Men’s 100m final. In this nail-biting race, Noah Lyles from the USA emerged victorious by the slimmest of margins. Both Lyles and the silver medalist crossed the finish line with an identical time of 9.79 seconds, putting OMEGA’s photofinish camera to the test. This sophisticated technology played a pivotal role in determining the outcome, as the high-resolution image captured the exact moment of the finish. The results revealed that Lyles had a fractionally faster time, securing his gold medal in a moment of intense drama and excitement.
