The Calatrava’s classic form gets a hypnotic update with a mesmerizing purple dial achieved with no less than 50 layers of translucent lacquer applied onto a pattern of embossed concentric waves. The rose gold case is adorned with diamonds on the bezel and houses the ultra-thin automatic calibre 240.

Also taking on a royal hue this year is the new 33mm Happy Sport in Lucent Steel (a steel alloy composed of 80 per cent recycled materials) with a midnight purple dial. In addition to the diamonds on the bezel, five more stones dance across the guilloche dial. A bluish-purple alligator strap completes the dreamy look.

The third fully gold BR05 embraces a luscious green sunray finished dial that contrasts beautifully against its rose gold case and integrated bracelet. Several layers of tinted green varnish allow the watch face to change its hue as the light hits it at different angles. The BR 05 Green Gold is also available with a green alligator strap – a first for the collection.

As part of the Carrera’s 60th anniversary celebrations, the 36mm Carrera Date has received welcome upgrades in the form of a new movement and a more compact design. The stainless-steel case is now just 10mm high, and houses the Calibre 7 automatic movement which boasts a beefed up power reserve of 56 hours.

The lack of a dial can also be a spectacle if done correctly – like how Rado did with its True Square Skeleton. Here, the top plate has been cut away to reveal the R808 automatic movement, leaving only a portion of the white top plate sitting atop a nickel bottom plate decorated with Cotes de Geneve.
