The new BMW 5 Series, Phytonic Blue Metallic, M Sport package

While the 530i's turbo-four engine remains unchanged, there is a new 48-volt hybrid system that can offer a slight electric boost when the driver needs it the most while overtaking, for example. The starter-generator can temporarily add an instant 11 horsepower for extra dynamism on the road. The mild hybrid system helps to lighten the combustion engine’s workload and boost the car’s power. This brings a reduction in fuel consumption and emissions while sharpening vehicle performance. The incoming 530, a plug-in hybrid, gets a substantial boost from a 109-horsepower electric motor that is integrated in its eight-speed ZF automatic transmission. All models will be available with rear-wheel drive.

The new BMW 5 Series, all-new BMW kidney grille and front apron

The new BMW 5 Series sees a slight increase in vehicle length compared to its predecessors. The prominent kidney grille immediately catches the eye with a new, octagonal appearance. This modern interpretation of the BMW icon adds extra width and height, drops down further into the front apron and is framed by a single-piece surround. The side view keeps the strong character line that turns into the C-pillar. Altogether, the new look is modern, exciting and makes the BMW 5 Series look more nimble and sportier than ever before.

BMW has added M multifunction seats as an option - previously reserved for the BMW M5 – that come with integral head restraints and optimised side and shoulder support. They’ve also upgraded the display panels from 10.25 to 12.3 inches, which comes as standard on the new BMW 520i Luxury Line, new BMW 530i M Sport and the extremely limited BMW 530i M Sport Edition. In addition to the new seats and displays, the contrast stitching is most noticeable and creates an extremely stylish, handcrafted feel.
