Jerls Su is the founder of Average Service

"Average Service is the first project that I founded on my own, with the concept stemming from my desire to create a space that transcends the traditional cafe experience. Over the years, my involvement in several F&B and lifestyle projects like Potato Head, ChaTraMue, and the Keongsaik Carnival, gave me a deeper understanding of how spaces and food can bring people together in meaningful ways. That was when I felt that there was a gap in the market for a space that could offer more than just food and drinks. With the rise of working-from-home and a growing emphasis on holistic living that facilitates creative exploration, I wanted to provide a space that blends quality food and brews, community, and different facets of lifestyle and culture.

What makes Average Service special is our core belief in forging genuine and ethical connections with our community, or ‘average people' as we try to redefine the notion of ‘average times’ and encourage people to embrace and elevate even the mundane everyday moments.

We want Average Service to go beyond serving great food and drinks. Our intent is to create a space where people feel comfortable and inspired to connect and create through intentional interactions spanning across multiple verticals.

Our F&B offerings and space were designed with that intent in mind. The 315 Jalan Besar flagship features an open kitchen bar seating that encourages interaction between guests and our culinary team, while our sunken conversation pit – a room within a room – encourages conversations and interactions within an intimate setting. It also serves as the heart of our community programming. Here, we envision hosting everything from creative workshops to community sharing sessions.

Looking ahead, we're excited about our community-driven initiatives. We hope to organise weekend markets in collaboration with local brands and artisans, especially those based in Jalan Besar to build and grow the community in the neighbourhood – we would like to create a space that feels like an extension of the neighbourhood itself. These markets will give people the opportunity to explore sustainable food sources from local grocers and discover crafts by local artisans, while creating a platform for community engagement.

We are also planning to host skill-based creative workshops and community sharing sessions down the line. Ultimately, I want people to see Average Service not just as a place to eat or drink, but as a catalyst for meaningful experiences. I believe that is what will draw people in and resonate with them, and I can’t wait to see where this journey takes us."
