While we constantly moan about how travel deprived we are, painfully longing for the day we get to revisit our favorite destinations, a glimmer of hope materializes in The Clan Hotel, a new luxury concept from Far East Hospitality that opened in March 2021.
A stay at the 324-room property, which is located in the middle of the Far East Square heritage precinct and the Telok Ayer district, almost feels like going through a portal to a new yet familiar place. From a distance, the copper glass-clad skyscraper looms above the neighborhood, but up close, it is quiet and discreet — no grand driveways or entrances, just an unassuming doorway that will lead you to a world of new experiences.
If there's one thing most of us need right now, it's a momentary escape.
You might be asking, "A new hotel? In such dismal times?" To that, Arthur Kiong, CEO of Far East Hospitality Management, says, "There is a sizable domestic demand for new staycation experiences in Singapore as long as international travel remains inaccessible. The modern-day guest is looking for authentic encounters… This is an opportune time for us carve a niche and address the market needs are we prepare for recovery."
In addition to providing the local market with new, beautiful rooms to rest and relax in, The Clan Hotel also boasts curated touch points — in the form of experiences and people (known as The Clan Collective). These features, According to Kiong, "will unveil stories of the vicinity and local culture."

The Rooms
The Clan Hotel features three room categories, starting with Deluxe, followed by Premier, and finally, Grand Premier, which is typically located in the corners of the higher floors. This top tier category, with its slightly larger size and dark colored fixtures, doesn't really differ all too much with the Premier. And as with most city hotels, don't expect a sprawling room. But what the rooms lack in size, they make up for with small touches that make a difference.
First, there is the option to customize the drinks and snacks in the in-room refreshment basket, as well as an amenity kit filled with necessities like face masks and alcohol wipes. The bathroom is also equipped with a TOTO Japanese-style toilet, as well as a built-in filtered water dispenser, eliminating the need for bottled water. The hotel's central location also ensures plenty of beautiful city views through the room's big windows.

The Facilities
QIN Restaurant and Bar is The Clan Hotel's in-house restaurant, which is a concept managed by the Tung Lok Group. In addition to the menu that's mostly comprised of modern Asian fare, QIN is also where hotel guests go for breakfast, allowing them to watch the central business district wake up through the floor-to-ceiling windows.
Fitness enthusiasts will literally feel like they're on top of the world when they opt for a swim or a quick workout at The Clan Hotel. Take the lift all the way up to the 30th floor and there you will find the Sky Pool and Jacuzzi, as well as the Sky Gym that's fully equipped with modern equipment and Fitness-on-Demand personal training.
As the hotel is in the heart of the business district, it's only natural that it becomes a venue for work events. Here, two state-of-the-art event spaces are available for small-scale meetings, seminars, or evening cocktails.

The Experience
The Clan Hotel experience begins at the hotel lobby on the second floor, where guests are greeted with a tea ceremony during check-in. This immediately reinforces the importance of the ceremony with the hotel's Chinatown location. Guests staying at the MASTER Series rooms (Premier and Grand Premier) also have the option for an in-room check in, as well as a personalized orientation of the hotel, which is organized by The Clan Keeper, the hotel's answer to a butler.
In addition, guests are also able to organize a local precinct tour or opt for a unique experience that involves The Clan Collective, which is a program and network comprised of local craftsmen, artists, and participating establishments like restaurants or craft beer breweries.
