Breguet Honours the Tourbillon's Legacy with New Anniversary Watches

The Tourbillon changed the course of horology in 1801. 225 years later, Breguet commemorates its landmark invention with a series of timepieces that blend heritage, innovation, and exceptional craftsmanship.

Few inventions have shaped mechanical watchmaking like the Tourbillon. Patented by Abraham-Louis Breguet in 1801, it was designed to improve a watch's precision by counteracting the effects of gravity on its movement. More than two centuries later, it remains one of the most respected and technically demanding complications in haute horlogerie.

Classique Tourbillon 7357

To mark the Tourbillon's 225th anniversary, Breguet has unveiled a collection of exceptional timepieces that celebrate both the invention's remarkable history and the Manufacture's continued pursuit of innovation. Rather than simply looking back, each new model demonstrates how the Tourbillon continues to evolve for modern watchmaking.

Leading the collection is the Classique Tourbillon 7357, a direct descendant of Breguet's landmark Ref. 3350 from 1989, the brand's first modern Tourbillon wristwatch. Offered in platinum and Breguet gold, it introduces the new Calibre 187B, an updated movement that preserves the historic character of its predecessor while benefiting from modern advancements such as improved magnetic resistance and a 60-hour power reserve. Elegant guilloché detailing, redesigned lugs, and the iconic Breguet hands complete a watch that perfectly balances heritage with contemporary refinement.

Classique Tourbillon Sidéral 7255
Tradition Tourbillon 7047

For collectors seeking something more unconventional, the Classique Tourbillon Sidéral 7255 presents Breguet's first flying Tourbillon wristwatch combined with a mysterious display, creating the illusion that the Tourbillon floats freely beneath a striking black aventurine enamel dial. Limited to just 50 pieces, the watch also pays tribute to Abraham-Louis Breguet's lifelong fascination with astronomy, reinforcing the historical connection between the Tourbillon and the study of the heavens.

The anniversary collection also includes the Tradition Tourbillon 7047, which combines Breguet's Tourbillon with the ingenious fusee-and-chain transmission inspired by Leonardo da Vinci, ensuring a more constant delivery of power. Finished in the distinctive Bleu de France reserved for the Manufacture's most exclusive creations, this 25-piece limited edition highlights the technical artistry behind one of watchmaking's most complex mechanisms.

Marine Tourbillon Équation Marchante 5887

Rounding out the collection is the Marine Tourbillon Équation Marchante 5887. The timepiece honours Breguet's historical role as watchmaker to the French Royal Navy with a celestial dial depicting the Paris night sky on the day the Tourbillon patent was granted.

Together, these timepieces are more than anniversary editions. They reflect Breguet's unique position as the inventor of the Tourbillon and demonstrate how an idea conceived over two centuries ago continues to inspire new levels of mechanical innovation.
