With this release, Chopard proudly completes its Chinese Zodiac cycle in its Urushi collection. Just like the inaugural Snake edition from 2013, the Year of the Dragon features a stunning dial that comes from the lacquer studios of Yamada Heiando, a company that has been supplying tableware to the Japanese Imperial Household for over a century, and finished in the experienced hands of master artist Minori Koizumi. The Maki-e technique involves sprinkling gold leaves and colored metallic powder between layers of lacquer to produce images with great vibrance, detail, and depth.
Limited to 88 pieces, the Chopard L.U.C XP Urushi Year of the Dragon resides in an ultra-slim, ethically sourced rose gold case measuring 39.5mm by 6.8mm. Having completed representations of all 12 zodiac animals in the collection, Chopard plans to release a box set containing all 12 watches later this year.

Bell & Ross BR 05 Artline Dragon
Bell & Ross reminds us that the contemporary stylishness of its BR 05 line is the perfect canvas for different art styles as it reveals its second Artline edition. Just like a full body suit tattoo covers a person from top to toe, the BR 05 Artline Dragon is covered from dial to clasp in an intricate laser-engraved design depicting a dragon surrounded by motifs of the sun, moon, flora, and fauna. Nearly every inch of the 40mm-wide watch has been decorated, including the bezel, crown guards, and bracelet links, beginning from the dial featuring a dragon head facing a date window at 3 o’clock. It is complemented by stylized lacquer-filled hour and minute hands alongside a rhodium-plated sweep seconds hand.

Blancpain Villeret Traditional Chinese Calendar
Aside from the occasional special edition, Blancpain has consistently dressed its annual Traditional Chinese Calendar watch in white Grand Feu enamel, with each year distinguished only by the corresponding animal’s engraving on the rotor. Seeing as the brand unveiled its first zodiac model 12 years ago during the last year of the dragon, it is restarting the cycle with a refreshed look using a green Grand Feu enamel dial in red gold, as well as redesigned animal portraits in the aperture at 12 o’clock.
The impressive Calibre 3638 continues to drive the watch, boasting over 400 parts working in tandem to indicate the lunar months, five elements, 10 heavenly stems and more. As with its predecessors, this will be a limited edition of 36 pieces.

Corum Bubble Dragon Eye
Corum’s quirky Bubble collection welcomes two dragon watches for the Lunar New Year, but today we are looking at the version that looks right back. Rather than sculpt an entire dragon, the dial is filled with a single red eye surrounded by golden scales. The eye-catching motif is the result of metal casting and hand-engraving to create a layered quality and a tactile pattern, with the pigments also filled in by hand.
The Bubble collection’s signature domed sapphire crystal adds to the illusion of an eye peeking out from the wrist, and its hulking 47mm diameter of the black PVD stainless steel case ensures it will be seen. Limited to 88 pieces.

Tag Heuer Carrera Chronograph Year of the Dragon
Tag Heuer’s popular Carrera Chronograph gets in the auspicious spirit with a limited edition in pink gold. Matching the 42mm case is a pink gold-plated dial and hour markers, with the latter highlighted with red lacquer. The warm red hue also fills the snailed chronograph subdials and the central chronograph hand. Small seconds are placed discreetly at 6 o’clock, sharing the space with a date window and a calligraphic dragon symbol.
The zodiac theme is more obvious on the back, with a printed dragon on the sapphire crystal caseback (through which you can admire the in-house Heuer 02 movement) alongside engravings that announce, “Limited Edition” and “One of 50”.

Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Enamel Dragon
On the dial side, this looks like just another flawlessly executed watch face from Jaeger-LeCoultre, with its faceted applied hour markers, dauphine hands, and a railway minute track sitting on a slick black Grand Feu enamel background. But flip it over and you will find a dragon amid swirling clouds delicately engraved into the pink gold case.
Using a technique known as modelled engraving, the master engraver required the use of 10 differently sized chisels and 80 hours to slowly sculpt the metal to reveal the mythical creature. The scales are then highlighted with black rhodium and the clouds sandblasted for contrasting texture. The Reverso Tribute Enamel Dragon is not a limited edition, but it will only be made to order.

Hublot Spirit of Big Bang Titanium Dragon
Amidst a sea of red and gold timepieces, Hublot's Spirit of Big Bang Titanium Dragon boldly stands out with its bright pink, blue, and silver tones. The dragon motif that spreads the watch face reflects a fusion of modern aesthetics and traditional Chinese artistry, specifically inspired by the art of paper cutting – another subtle allusion to the year of the Wood Dragon.
Working with cutouts designed by Chinese artist Chen Fenwan, the dial is made from several layers of appliques, and this layered theme extends to the rubber strap, where a marquetry of scale motifs has been nano-vulcanised onto the rubber – a first for the brand. The 42mm titanium watch is a limited edition of 88 pieces and comes with an additional titanium-grey Velcro fabric strap. Inside it is the HUB1710 automatic movement with a power reserve of 50 hours.

IWC Portugieser Chronograph Year of the Dragon
IWC’s best-selling Portugieser has been left largely unscathed by flighty consumer trends – a true testament to its near-flawless design. Even with a spirited burgundy dial and gold-plated hands and appliques, it remains an elegant chronograph with its 41mm steel case and will continue to be a stylish choice for occasions well beyond these February revelries.
The in-house calibre 69355 was incorporated into the lineup in 2020, and continues to do so for the current generation of Portugieser Chronographs, and has a classic column-wheel design.
