Leny Suparman is the CEO of KOP Properties

KOP Properties is a real estate company based in Singapore. One of the notable projects that we have launched is the Ritz-Carlton Residences in Singapore – a very elegant yet understated luxury project, it is the first of its kind in Asia, and the first of such branded development outside of North America.

While we were building the Ritz-Carlton Residences, we acquired another site close by where we eventually developed Hamilton Scotts. We wanted an equally high-end development but with a totally different concept from the Ritz-Carlton – something very flamboyant yet also very cool. We knew how much Singaporeans love their cars, so we worked around the idea of an elevated carport. Instead of parking their cars in the basement, the residents can bring up their cars right in front of their apartments.

For us, providing the hardware is not enough; the software is also very important. We decided to venture into hospitality with our own hospitality company and resort brand, Montigo Resorts. It is a family-oriented resort where guests can enjoy their time with their family or just by themselves. Currently, we have two Montigo Resorts in Indonesia: in Nongsa, Batam and in Bali. We plan to roll out more Montigo resorts in the near future.

The latest development project that we have embarked on is quite ambitious — an indoor ski village in Shanghai, which will be called WintaStar.

We’ve been planning this project for the past three years. We’ve done a lot of research, and we’ve been talking to the top experts in this field. I’ve been taking a lot of trips to Europe where the expertise, culture and know-how is.

Europeans have been skiing for centuries, and their romance with snow is something that Asians will catch on very quickly. Over the last five years, skiing has become very popular among Southeast Asians, especially Singaporeans. We believe that China will be next to catch this big phenomenon, just as golf has become very popular there over the last eight years.

This project will encompass hotels, resorts, serviced apartments, theaters and a beach club, and offer a range of snow sports and leisure activities, from skiing to snowboarding, making snowmen and staying in igloos.
